L'environnement

L'environnement est l'ensemble des éléments naturels et culturels dans lesquels les êtres vivants se trouvent^[1].

L'environnement biophysique (biologique et physique) des espèces représente l'environnement naturel, tandis que l'environnement humain représente un environnement culturel. Composé de conditions écologiques et sociologiques, l'environnement détermine la présence et l'existence des organismes vivants. Dans cette dynamique de territoire, la culture humaine en rupture avec l'environnement naturel réalise la pollution globale et locale planétaire.

Le sens de ce mot a sensiblement évolué au XX^e siècle pour finir par définir et désigner à la fin du XX^e siècle, la relation des activités humaines et le rapport de l'humanité avec la nature. On parle ainsi de défense de l'environnement, de droit de l'environnement, de préoccupation environnementale, d'éducation à l'environnement et d'activités environnementales. Plus que les paroles, le geste écologique est représentatif d'un état de la conscience environnementale.

A lot of exciting things happened this month! With everything set to go for Live Earth India in December, we helped register voters for the U.S. election with Rock the Vote and examined the candidates' environmental stances with Plenty. We also teamed up with the Art of Living Foundation to Stand Up Take Action, and uncovered trendy new fashions and handy tips for greener living on the Live Earth Blog.

Carpool to the Polls

With record numbers of Americans expected to vote November 4th, we want to make sure that all registered voters can get to their local voting booths and reduce emissions in the process. So we partnered with Zimride to make sure that if people have to drive to their polling place, they'll be driving together. Now that voter registration deadlines have passed in most states, we're asking that you promote Carpool to the Polls as a way to engage voters in getting their friends to the polls, and thinking about the environment when they go to vote.

The eyes of the world are cast on the U.S. in advance of next month's election. Will the next president make it a priority to combat the global climate crisis? Now is our chance to demand that the next U.S. president is invited to the UN Climate Change Conference this December in Poland.
